March 1990 to May 2019, coming to Frankfurt (Oder) every 10 years is always an event. This city is constantly changing. The first impression in 1990 was “What a scrap heap”. Ruins, decay, garbage and the constant truck traffic at the Oder bridge to Poland. The controls to continue the journey to the brotherland were just as strict as when entering the GDR from the FRG. Today there is a motorway, trucks are banned, the city centre is newly built on and revitalised. Some corners still look like before, others are hardly to be recognized again.

Impressive what has been created over the years. All the less understandable, the constant slogans of right-wing parties to the European and local elections. Forgetting is the order of the day, no real consideration of one’s own performance. Those who go shopping in Poland and complain about the decay of the retail trade in the city centre have not thought. Perhaps too simple, but omnipresent.

Therefore here and now a juxtaposition of pictures from 30 years in Frankfurt (Oder) and no treatise on history and stories.
