_______________

Wilhelm II, Tsar Nicholas II, queens and kings were here, Harry Pile made a film, as did Hildegard Knef, Anita Kupsch and Ursela Monn. It was also a concentration camp outpost, hospital of the Red Army, belonged to the Unilever soap manufacturer, was a guest house of the state security and everything began with a soldier who wanted to build a mill in the 18th century, but was not allowed.

Schloß Dammsmühle, named after its former owner Damm, acquired by Lieutenant Wollank and converted into a neo-baroque manor. A dance hall in the form of a mosque was enthroned on the Mühlenteichinsel, the Hubertuspavillon as a tomb for Wollank, everything gone. Today there is still a wooden pagoda as a garden house in the castle park. Old trees rotted, fish ask not to be fished.

There was really something going on around the mill pond. Today the castle is a ruin. The investor is broke and the jewel decays. Walkers can still remember that they dined on the terrace princely in the 1990s. That was a long time ago too.

Who wants to look again and make a nice excursion. The B109 direction Wandlitz, in Schönwalde at the church turn left into the Mühlenbecker Chaussee and at the Waldsiedlung turn right into the Schloßstraße. At the end there is a parking lot. Or take the NEB Heidekrautbahn to Schönwalde and then walk the same way or cycle.
