A stork flies up slowly, settles on the church tower, rattles loudly and twists and turns in all directions. This does not go unnoticed. It then starts moving again and glides to its nest on the outskirts of the village, right between the castle and the river in Blankensee. The arrival is spectacular and is immediately well received. “Well, maybe it will be something this year” comments the neighbour, because last year there was no offspring because the female stork was missing.

We are in the nature park Nuthe-Nieplitz. Between asparagus and swamp, eagle’s nest and stork’s nest. Through the dilapidated and restored buildings in Beelitz sanatoriums, past asparagus fields, through the expanse of the Brandenburg countryside, to the rivers near Stangenhagen. Here in the reeds hide water birds of all kinds, in the sky two eagles circle and provide their young with all kinds of animals from the surrounding fields. Swans are still involved in territorial disputes and in the fields are large flocks of cranes. Bright blue sky, no air traffic, heavenly peace.

The places are empty, hardly anyone on the streets, which is not unusual for Brandenburg. Everywhere, homemade or harvested produce is offered in street sales.

At the end a walk through the baroque castle park over many white bridges in Blankensee. There are fishermen standing here and get some big fish from the castle moat.

The motorways on the way back are without traffic for miles. An impression like in the times of the oil crisis and the Sunday driving ban.
